A little over a year and a half ago,
I was a freshman sitting in a huge lecture room listening to
two students give a presentation together about something called the“ICC”.
I was in awe as the two bravely stood in front of an audience
of hundreds and spoke flawlessly.
Their speech was smooth, well rehearsed, and filled with enthusiasm.
Later in the semester, I actually met one of the students who gave the lecture
orientation that day and we became good friends.
She told me all about the ICC and her experience of being a student staff,
and from that moment I knew that I too wanted to become a student staff.
Fast forward to the present, I look at myself now and still can’t
believe that this time I will be the one up on that stage giving presentations.
I hope that I’ll be able to inspire a few students to become interested in
ICC’s events, and even become student staff themselves!
Working as an ICC Student Staff Leader is both extremely
intimidating and exciting at the same time.
Working at the ICC is a completely new experience for me.
I’ve worked at a restaurant, as a children’s camp counselor,
and even at a hotel parking lot.
But ICC is the first job were I feel as though I’m really
making a difference and fulfilling a purpose.
One of the great parts of working as a Student Staff
is being able to watch as a group of students
become close friends through an ICC event.
The full time staff and other student staff really encourage me
to work harder and challenge myself everyday.
Although my Japanese skills are not that high,
the staff around me never let me use that as a handicap and
always motivate me to push my limits.
Of course at the ICC they don’t just work hard, they play hard too!
One of the highlights of working with the ICC during the summer
was the day trip to Disney Sea.
Staff at the ICC are genuinely kind and fun to be around.
This semester I’m really hoping to be able to improve
not just my Japanese skills, but also learn to push myself
further and grow with the help of the ICC staff.
Looking forward to the semesters to come!
